Last Monday I had a breaking point - FOUR people throughout the day came to my door, trying to sell all kinds of things that I have no interest in nor the money for. It happened to be a hot day, where I wasn't fully clothed and I was feeling very pregnant, so me peeling myself off the sofa while dogs bark like crazy and rush to the door (waking my toddler in the meanwhile) just so a mom of a child could once again plead their case to me was quickly becoming very irritating.

My solution came to me in a facebook reply - that supposively, these kinds of people are supposed to listen to No Soliciting signs. Whether they would or not, I quickly decided that it was worth the chance that it would work. I took to Pinterest and decided to combine a few cute ideas, then ran out to the store and bought the supplies. Last night, while watching my way through my netflix que, I painted this up. Since I was tired and watching tv, it's clear to see that not every line is quite straight, but maybe that makes it more eye catching.

I also added "and the baby is sleeping" at the end as 1) it's already true at times and it'll be truer later and 2) most people don't want to deal with a tired mommy that just had her baby awoken by someone trying to sell her something. If you're not going to listen the rest (and the Beware of Dogs sign I have in my window) then for your own self-preservation, listen to the baby sleeping part and stay away!

Anyway, here it is, slowly being surrounded by pumpkins (I have three giant pumpkins to put out there after I carve them...probably tomorrow.)
Between my sewing projects, crocheting, business posts, other craft projects, cooking and baking, that it was just hectic.

I took one of those out and made a new blog for it instead. Check out the newbie blog here: Homespun Dreams and feel free to follow along!JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-86883059349543446522013-08-25T22:15:00.001-07:002013-08-25T22:15:19.409-07:00Crafts: GrowthI just finished an order that I'm super proud of.

Not only do I love the product in person (I haven't even managed to watch this movie yet and I think these things are so freaking cute and want to make my baby one!) but I used to make adult hat versions of these early last year.

If you look at the hat item from last year and the one I just made tonight, there's a huge difference.

Last year's:

Tonight's:

Seriously?? Can you see it?

I've grown a lot as a crocheter. I've gone from something basic to something that I'm really proud of. I'm so excited to see how much growth I've gone through in a year. With each order, I get a little better. I get more creative as each week goes by. There's times where I'm laying in bed at night, all cuddled up with my pregnancy insomnia, and crochet ideas are floating through my head. How can I elevate this? How can I make this better? What stitch can I use to get the exact, very difficult, look that I want?\

This little guy just sold, he's a custom order for another little December baby (2014 kids all around the country are going to be decked out in crochet wear at this rate! For two months I've only been selling to December Baby mommies because they've kept me so busy!)

Next up on the crochet list - a quick newborn hat for my own December baby (it's true - I haven't made him any hats yet! I know, bad mommy!) and then back to the orders. The next one I'm really excited about - it's a big order including a Santa stocking cocoon, a Hungry Caterpillar set and two matching brothers' ribbed cable winter hats. This is from a customer who's bought from me twice before and keeps coming back - her baby is going to be so ready for his photoshoots!JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-63430340540397479672013-08-23T22:09:00.000-07:002013-08-23T22:09:01.538-07:00Craft: Milestone!Hit a huge milestone today! I just got my 17th order since joining Storenvy, and I've now crossed the $500 mark in sales! Over half of that is just since this past June, and $100 of it is just from this month. All in all I've sold over 25 hats. This isn't including the 15+ custom order requests currently sitting in the request book that I'm slowly making my way through each day.

I'm trying to keep track of how the business is going so I know how to continue to improve and what does best. So far it seems to be heading in the right direction, as it's continuing to do better all the time. I've become much more in demand, receiving custom requests multiple times each week. I'm doing well enough to make custom orders worth my while without having to raise any of my prices. My crochet items are all still under the majority of etsy prices, while having the same great quality. While I'm sure I could get even more sales on Etsy, I've decided to stay on Storenvy and do customs for now. I'm also hoping to get to a few flea markets and craft shows at some point when I have enough down time to start building stock. Right now I'm just trying to stay on top of these custom orders. I always feel like I'm falling behind no matter how fast I work! Mainly because each order includes multiple hats usually, so it takes longer to get through one and then through the next in line.

But I must say, I'm really enjoying it! While custom orders make for stressful, overwhelming moments at times, it's very satisfying. I've been getting great reviews and many of the custom orders I have now are repeat customers who were very satisfied with their other purchases from me. That means the most to me - getting repeat customers! It means that not only does my stuff look good enough to get orders, but they hold up in person and please those who are buying enough for them to continue wanting more and buying more. I've had more people sharing my business on their facebooks as well, which means my facebook site is growing in followers again as well.

My fingers are sore from working on two custom orders all day today (One that has five of the same hats and another that's a hat, diaper cover and suspenders set) but I'm sure I'll still be up a while longer working away at them! It's 1 AM now, better get back to it!JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-76274135820304638752013-08-22T08:39:00.003-07:002013-08-22T08:39:55.338-07:00Pinterest CookingA quick update in some new recipes I've been trying out, courtesy of Pinterest:
This Bacon wrapped Chicken with sour cream was pretty good. The length of cooking was a bit annoying, but it made the house smell great. The bacon, however, never got any kind of crispy due to the sour cream mixture on top, which meant eating limp bacon. It was great flavor, but really lacked texture. It was also extremely salty, between the slow cooked bacon and the cream of chicken (even with lower sodium). It was a bit like eating a flavored salt lick at times. The sour cream mixture seems off - you can't really taste the sour cream because the cream of chicken is overwhelming.
The concept of this idea is awesome, but it needs some fixing up. Next time I'd use half the cream of chicken and the same amount of sour cream. I'd put it on the bottom and sides instead of the top so at least some of the bacon has a chance to crisp up and give some texture. I'd cook it longer without the foil on. I think I'd also skip the slow cooking, since it made everything so salty and a bit mushy and cook it higher for a shorter time.
These were great. To my surprise, Bill loved them, even though they're not his typical thing to like. I figured I was making them mostly for me, because I love sandwiches that deal with french bread and tomatoes grilled up.
What I'd change about it: While the taste is great, it's lacking meat. It just seems like, with those components, there should be something meaty in it as well. I think some shredded chicken breast between the cheese and tomato would make this even better.
I made this yesterday, using mild sausage instead of spicy. It tasted really good, but it was still spicy. Not too spicy, my toddler loved it, but this preggo could not handle it and heartburn stuck with me all day. But, if I wasn't pregnant, I wouldn't change that part because it had just the right amount of kick. I could NOT find Monterey Jack cheese, so I had to use cheddar and Monterey Jack combined. While it tasted fine, I think it would have been better without the cheddar. I also would add a little something else, maybe jalapenos (obviously not while pregnant) or something with a bit of added flavor to it so it's not quite so one tone. As a whole though, this was really good and SUPER filling. We couldn't eat more than half a plate at a time and it really stuck with you heavily afterwards. It would be a great winter meal.
In just a few months, I had about 400 followers and made about $250. Not bad for just starting out. But when I got pregnant in November, I shut it down. I opened it briefly for charity work after my miscarriage, but shut it down a little afterwards. Ever since reopening it a few months ago, it was never the same. I lost over a hundred followers and had very seldom orders from all the months I had it closed. I decided I'd just be okay with that, it was a fun run while it lasted and I could try doing craft fairs and flea markets later on to reopen it eventually.

But then, something awesome happened. I got pregnant again, which is a blessing in itself, and with becoming pregnant and one time showing off a few hats I had made baby in my baby group, my store blossomed again. Just in the last two or three weeks, I made almost $100. I am currently working through $250 in orders, and the orders are still coming in frequently (I usually get 2-3 a week). This means three things: 1) my store is running and getting business again, and even more than it got last year with 400 followers, 2) I have multiple repeat customers who not only continue to buy my hats for both their babies and others, but they spread the word about me and rave about me online and 3) I'm going to be able to fully fund preparing for this baby just on my hat business. It's SUCH a good feeling to be able to make some money as a SAHM, and enough to actually pay for all of baby's needs, including a car seat, baby carrier, crib mattress, clothing, and other necessities.

Not only this, but I get to see babies due at the same time as our little boy wearing my hats that I custom made for them! How neat will that be?!

Like last year, it's very craft heavy again, but this time it's much more. I have so many fun ideas on how to incorporate her party with the gender reveal finale and have everything Minnie and Mickey too.

So far, I finished my Mickey garland. I'm still debating adding tulle poms on every other Mickey head to turn them into Minnie's, but we'll see. I like how they look now too. The black ones are for the front room, which will be exclusively Minnie themed, and the pink and blue ones will be in the second room, which will be pink and blue themed with Minnies incorporated.

I don't have pictures of the black ones, but they're exactly the same.

With that done, I stopped at Party City and Walmart and grabbed a bunch of stuff for goodie bags! I only made four so far, as I also ordered a few things off of amazon to go in them and each one takes a few minutes to put together. I just need to grab my big blue and pink lollipops to stick in there yet! I just checked though, I don't have pictures of them yet, but I will once I have more made!

Next, I started the huge labor of Minnie Ears. I decided to hand make a set for everyone coming. Thank goodness for Pinterest! I bought a large stack of black felt, foam paper, headbands and lots of hot glue and started cutting circles for days. Once everything was cut, I started gluing and burning my fingers. As of this morning, I used almost all my supplies and got half of them done. While these aren't perfect, I love the idea of the foam paper, which really makes them stand up perfectly. However, each pair of ears cost one whole stick of hot glue!

Sticking with the Katie and gender theme, I made a set of blue pom ears and a set of pink bow ears as a way of everyone showing their guess of the gender to add a little more fun. Of course that meant I had to make mine special, so I got some felt that's new at the store and incorporated it into my pair, and made a special blue and pink pom to go with it.

Now I have half of the headbands to go yet, and grabbing a few more decorations.JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-58119015502082022122013-03-31T11:06:00.003-07:002013-03-31T11:06:42.237-07:00#2- all finished except for legs!I worked SO HARD yesterday on Lollo #2, trying to finish it before Easter. I managed to get farther than I thought, but she sadly remains with no legs. Instead of struggling and failing, I did all I could and decided that I would pause on the hexagons and decorate the bear. I rather she be missing a leg or two than to have the whole bear crocheted but with no eyes or pretty decorations.

She now has her arms (the hands are praying/holding flowers and are connected by a button), she has a bouquet, two butterflies, a cross on her chest, big glitter wings with fuzzy yarn outlining it, a bow that I won in a contest (Katie wore the second one today on Easter), wing earrings, eyes, and a glittery bow with a large wing on the flower stems. I love how she's shaping up. I brought her along today to do the Elizabeth stuff and to my surprise, even my dad and grandfather said how great it looked (these are not men that typically glance at any craft or teddy bear, so it was nice to hear.)
Bad news - Lollo now has a head and ears and Katie LOVES her. She took one look at Lollo with her head and ears attached to that egg shape body and she went crazy. It was so adorable that I had to hand her over and pray that it would be a quick cuddle. No such luck. Twenty minutes later, she's still over there hugging the limbless teddy bear. I just don't have it in me to take Elizabeth's bear away from her, so meanwhile I'm skipping forming the face and just working ahead on the limbs.

I would love to get this done before Easter so that we can take it with us when we visit Elizabeth. So far this Lollo has gone by faster than the last one and with less problems, but I don't know how fast I can prepare baked goods and food for Easter AND also crochet limbs all day, plus the white glitter wings. We'll see, my fingers are crossed.

It's coming along nicely, and the perfect size. Just cuddling this easter egg shaped body is fun! It's drastically smaller than #1, which I was pleased with as I wanted this to be pretty small. I have no idea if this is closer to the size of the pattern or maybe even a bit smaller, but it'll be the perfect size for what it's intended for. Pictures below show #2 against #1 to compare sizes.

Was hoping to get the head done today, but it's been so busy that I only managed to do one hexagon of the head! Hopefully tomorrow will see many more motifs. I'm eager to experiment with this Lollo's eyes, since it doesn't have to be childproof.

I'm currently working with my larger hook (3.50) and made the first two rounds of the body. The 5th round of the motifs have been changed from a double crochet to a single, and I'm sewing them together from the inside. This bear is definitely much smaller! I'd say it's probably half the size, which is great. I'm really liking how to looks so far, I can't wait until this petite bear starts to shape up more!

As I type, Katie has grabbed her Lollo, pulled it in her chair with her and began to cuddle. She drags him around everywhere and gives him big hugs. I love that she still enjoys him so much, she usually doesn't cuddle much with any of her stuffed animals (and she has a lot!). I tried to steal him away to make a comparison shot of him and #2's size, but her little hands grabbed onto him and pulled him in close! Oh well, I'll have to do it when #2 is more built up!

Here's how #2 is doing:
One is a Mother's Day gift that will surely take quite a bit of time and the other is Lollo #2. Lollo #2 is in memory of my Elizabeth, my little angel. This bear is to sit on her memory box as a glittery winged guardian, so I don't want him to be quite the size of Katie's Lollo. However, I want to use the same thickness of yarn, which means I can't use much smaller of hooks. Here's what I'll be changing:

I'll only be using TWO hooks this time, instead of 4-5. Two is really only necessary, one for the bottom part of the body and the head, and one for the parts that taper off.

I'm not going to do double thick yarn on hands and feet. It makes them a bit too big and since this bear won't be played with roughly, there's no real need to double up both sides. Not to mention, the bear will have flowers in it's hands, so you won't see much of them.

I'm doing the hexagon/pentagon pattern differently by doing round 5 as either a single crochet or a half crochet. Right now I'm thinking of doing a single and then sewing them together.

If I don't sew these motifs together, this time I'm going to crochet the patterns inside out to get a smoother joining.

I may take out a round in the body and arms. I'm not sure about this yet as it may turn out a bit strange, but I may use the smaller hook on the head to shrink it a bit, then skip round three in the body and take one round off the arms to make them not look too long. I think I'll leave the legs go though, as they look a little short on Lollo #1.

I'm not sure what size hooks I'll be using yet, but probably the two smallest ones I've used last time if that's possible. This should be a true experiment, to see if Lollo#2 comes out looking alright!

I also need to find a pattern on how to make large angel wings with fingerling yarn. But, that's something to worry about much later!

EDIT: after much deliberation, and reading through other people's reviews (the ones who didn't use 6 tiny itty bitty hooks) I decided to use size 3.25 and 3.50. The most common variant is 3.25 and 3.75, but I want to make this as small as it'll go with these larger hooks, so I want the larger pieces just barely larger. We'll see how this goes! Starting now!

Oh, and these are the colors I chose (the small yarn is white and glittery, I'm going to use it for the wings and possible the eye motifs.)

and a rough draft of how I'm going to decorate Elizabeth's Lollo. The necklace will be a handbeaded string of rubies with a cross at the bottom, the rose at the ear will be crocheted and with the soft pink yarn that's leftover from Katie's bear to add a give a little sisterly addition, the wings will be crocheted out of the glitter yarn above, the earrings will be little wings on each side, and she'll hold a bouquet of beautiful flowers in her hand. I can't decide between which one I want yet though, there's three at Walmart that just jump out at me, so I'm going to wait until Lollo is more finished to decide...hopefully they'll all still be there!)

I'm so proud that I stuck with it and got it done. There were tempting moments were it was taking so long and parts were frustrating that I just wanted to put it aside. There's only so many hexagons and pentagons you can make before you start going a little crazy! (I was up at 3 AM last night working on hexagons. I started timing myself - thought I was doing well until I saw that it took almost exactly 9 minutes for each one at top speed. Seeing how many I had to make plus all the putting together time...MANY hours went into this bear!)

I was so excited last night to get the bear done that I nearly stayed awake to keep going. Instead, I stopped around 3 AM after the very last hexagons had to be made. I stuffed them inside the feet pockets that I had already put together and then headed for bed.

The legs really were quite easy. The double yarn feet killed my fingers and were slow going, but beside that the legs were the easiest to put together, I think. The feet looked huge to me when putting them together but they look perfect now that they're on the bear.

I decided to do something different with the legs than what I did with the arms. With the arms, I sewed together half of the two hexagons (one on the shoulder and one on the under arm). With the legs, I did what I would have done with the button method, but without the buttons. It really doesn't seem like the buttons do too much more than what the string alone does. Now Lollo bear can both stand up and sit (though his leg joints aren't strong enough to stand him up by himself, he needs to lean. However, he can sit up by himself.)

I think my favorite thing is that Lollo bear is the same size as Katie. I think she may be about two inches taller, if that. How exciting later on, that I'll get to tell her how I made her that bear when she was the size of it.

Speaking of Katie, she LOVES it. As soon as she saw me carrying it around to take pictures, she started wailing her arms and asking for him. I stopped taking pictures, moved them down to the nursery and let her at him. She walked over, studied him for a moment, then gave him a big hug and giggled. How adorable! She likes walking back and forth to him and then cuddling up for a few moments. He definitely makes her happy, so it was well worth the time I put into him!

She wanted to be in all of the Lollo pictures once she got ahold of him, so some part of her managed to get into most of the nursery pictures!

Now that he's finished, all we have to do is decide on a gender for the bear (keep calling him he even though its so pink and for a girl and was meant to be girly) and decide on a cute name.
I decided to go with felt eyes, as I thought they'd fair better than embroidered and safer than plastic. I also have started on Lollo's feet. I decided after the difficulty with the hands, that I'd do both feet at the same time. Which means this is going really slow! Double yarned hexagons take me forever with tiny needles. Once the feet are together, the legs will go much quicker.

Here's pictures of the last day or two's progress:
(the hexagons/pentagons are the toes, heels and one top foot)
And I did another project - great timing as well, as every part of it was on sale! Glitter tulles for 1.99 each and the basket for .99. I made a tutu with embroidery floss stringing them together and then glued them all to the rim of the basket. I added little white roses and a heart/wings pendant that were leftover from the Calvin's Hats. Whole thing took me about fifteen minutes, but I do love how it looks! This little one is for our Elizabeth.

JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-81584917558154175082013-03-15T10:34:00.002-07:002013-03-15T10:34:17.145-07:00Lollo - days 8-10Being sick, I've been forced to go slow with Lollo (yes, that's right - I'm STILL sick! Over a week of sneezing, coughing yuckiness.) but, I've finally gotten both of his arms on and attached to the rest of his body.

The arms went ary , I'll admit. I'm not sure why. Both arms had a weird top hexagon attachment (the last one just wouldn't go on correctly both times, even though counting the stitches and doing it slowly says it should have went fine.) Then the paw of the second arm turned out noticeably bigger than the first arm - something I didn't notice until the arm was completely sewn up and stuffed. I managed to rig it pretty successfully, by just working with the method of how you do the eye indents. I also didn't notice until the arm was done and stuffed that second arm was wavy. I have NO idea why this could be, but the inner arm at the wrist actually seemed smaller than the outer, which should be impossible because each hexagon (double checked before sewing together) matched perfectly and were all the same size. Luckily, once it was attached to the bear, you couldn't really tell. I figure once it's played with, it'll probably look normal. It just was a bit odd while the whole body is stiff from not getting played with yet.

So, I did run into a few problems, but nothing major. I had to retry a few things and sometimes I just had to rig it, but Lollo looks great still and you can't tell where things went wrong (at least I can't.)

I bought the buttons to make Lollos arms jointed, but decided at the last minute not to. I decided against plastic eyes because of choking hazards, then realized I might as well stick to the "choking hazard free" bear and skip the buttons. Turns out, they aren't really needed, at least with how I did the arms. I took the inner top arm's hexagon and matched it the the shoulder's hexagon, then sewed with double yarn half way around the hexagon. I also sewed the under arm half way across the hexagon. This gives the arm security but mobility. I can still lift the arms and move them around without any buttons attached. Sewing around the full hexagon, as I had done with the head, I think would have made the arms too stiff and unmoving.

And last but not least, here's Lollo pictures! I put the bear on a glider to get a better idea about the size:
Yesterday I managed to pull myself together, crochet six hexagons and then put them all together, stuffed them and made the left arm. I was a little worried honestly, as I could actually fit my hand and arm into this bear's arm! (It went up a little past my elbow.) It's definitely not a small bear.

Today I have to make six more hexagons and two double yarn hexagons (which for some reason just take me forever). The last hexagon of the arm yesterday was so hard to attach for some reason. I even pinned it down and crocheted along perfectly, counting each stitch and it still didn't come out right at all. I undid it three times before just "making" it work (which really isn't very hard to do in dire circumstances, I found myself doing it often to the bottom of the body. You really can't tell in the finished product unless you really want to scour each shape and count each side to see how many stitches are there. It might make you go blind first!)

I may just stitch on the last hexagon instead of doing the make do way this time, as I have no idea what goes wrong and how to fix it. But in the end, it looks just fine and probably holds the stuffing in better.

I am a bit concerned if this bear gets a lot of use. The stuffing does stay in, as long as no little fingers try to wiggle in the big holes. I wonder if he's hugged enough if the stuffing will start coming out too. The holes in the motifs aren't terribly big, but they're not tiny either.

Here's some pictures from yesterday:
Just when I'm thinking that I can bust out the rest of this bear before the end of the weekend, needing to only do limbs yet, I get hit with a nasty sickness. I managed to crochet two double yarned hexagons and put them together before I was taken over by fevers and instability. My poor half-paw is sitting beside me, asking "aren't you going to finish me yet?" It's true, I'm no longer feverish and I probably could handle crocheting, but I'm just too drained to handle this new way of putting together hexagons. So, my new plan is to work on at least the one arm tomorrow, and get this bear finished by Wednesday. For now, Lollo only has one thing added to her since last time - a big pink glittery heart ribbon around her neck.
But when we came back home and watched a movie, I picked Lollo back up and finished piecing together her head.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the head is MUCH easier to do than the body. I thought it would be harder, as you have to shape it and there's more dimensions to it but it really comes together quite naturally. I found that half way through I barely needed the instructions anymore because you could just see where the shapes needed to be filled in.

I love Lollo's ears. They're just adorable! They were pretty while making them and they so naturally form into ear shapes. Sewing them on seamlessly to an opened motif was interesting but not too difficult.

The pattern gives no say about how to attach the head to the body, so I did it my way. For some reason, in the pattern her attachments lay flat but mine poke out. As I very carefully followed every instruction, I'm not sure where I went wrong and I'm wondering if maybe it's the thicker yarn with the tiny hooks that are causing it to pucker. However, I don't mind the look and it came in handy at this part. I took the bottom pentagon at the base of the skull and the top pentagon on the body and matched them together. Since the seams pucker out, I just connected them through the seams. That way it's connected really well and it looks quite seamless. It makes the puckered look like it was on purpose as the two mesh well together. I'm sure it would have been much more difficult to securely attach the head without straining the motifs without the puckered lining.

This bear is a bit bigger than the normal pattern, but I adore the size. It's bigger than a standard teddy and gives lots of room to cuddle. I believe I'll stick with this size instead of trying to be more true to the pattern and using smaller ones.

Today, Day 7, I'll be working on the arms. I haven't gotten to start on them, or even read through the pattern yet, but I'm hoping I'll be able to finish at least one today if not both.

Here's Lollo last night:
Who would have thought though that one bear head would take so long? I had hoped to get it all done yesterday, but it took all of my time to make the 6 hexagons, 5 pentagons (or is it the other way around?), modified ear patches, the ears, and the nose! Today's plan is to get it all stitched together and stuffed. I'm sure with how odd the stitching is on this that it'll probably take me all day, so my current plan looks like this:

Day 6 (today): crochet head pieces together, stuff, attach to body. Make eyes?
(still trying to decide if I should go with embroidered, felt or plastic eyes.)

Day 7: make arms

Day 8: stitch arms together, make legs

Day 9: finish legs, stitch together

Day 10: put all body parts and finishing touches on bear.

So hopefully by Monday it'll be done. Trying to decide if I should jump right into Elizabeth's Lollo bear after that, or get started on my Mother's Day gift for my mom that I'm really excited about.

Here's what I have as of last night:

The body on the left, the stack (which I have all tied together so I don't lose any of the pieces) is all of the hexagons, pentagons, ear patches and the nose on top. The front two hexagons are the ears.

Off to begin crocheting!

It instantly caught my attention and I fell in love with the look of it. It just looks like a beautiful heirloom bear. I ended up buying my very first pattern - all 200 pages of pictures and descriptions. I must say, it's quite a journey and labor of love!

This is this week's and possibly next week's Pinterest challenge and I'm really enjoying it. I'm going to be making two - one for Katie in soft pink, mossy green and white, and the second bear will be a modified version for Elizabeth. That one will be white, purple and pale blue and will also have big white angel wings (hoping to find white glittery yarn but not sure where to find it) as well as some roses in her praying hands and a hand beaded rosary I'll be making for around her next, comprised of rubies and a big cross. Since this one won't be played with, I'll be going all out to decorate it beautifully. Katie's will have to be a little plainer, as I'm hoping she'll enjoy dragging it about and will need to have no choking hazards on it.

Here's some examples of different Lollo bears:
Since I had quite a few requests to detail how Lollo goes, I'll be writing down my daily Lollo do's:

I've been working on Katie's Lollo for five days now (today is day five). Four days it took me to make the large body. It's a bit larger than the pattern calls for, as I decided to use thicker yarn with larger hooks. The pattern calls for 5-6 hooks, most all in the 1.75 and below sizes. I decided to use 3.75, 3.50, 3.25 and 2.25 with 4 ply WW yarn.

Day 1 started late at night. I used this time to learn how to make african flowers in hexagon and pentagon shapes.

Day 2 I made my first round, the butt part of the bear.

Day 3: I began hating the way the pattern asks to attach the bears. I believe next time I'll do it differently. I saw multiple reviewers say that they didn't follow the pattern here, but I was trying to be as accurate as possible. I now agree with them, it'll be much easier to just sew the shapes together fully made instead of attaching them half done. This day was very frustrating, as the second round had to be done and redone in order to get it right.

Day 4's Dragon egg shape body and the beginning of day's five hexagons.

Day 4 I finished the body. Rounds 3-5 went quicker than the rest of the body, but the attaching got worse I think. The body is quite large but SO cuddly! I stuffed him well then added the last hexagon to close him up.

Day 5: I've begun working on the head today. So far I did 5 hexagons and now working on the pentagons. 6 pentagons, 5 hexagons, and odd shapes are needed for the head. A bit worried about the size since I'm using modified sized hooks and hoping it comes out accurate, but we'll see. A bit worried I'll have to do it all over again!

Since the body was the biggest part, I'm hoping the rest of Lollo will go quickly now.JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-39729367702168994122013-02-25T18:43:00.002-08:002013-02-25T18:43:24.348-08:00Pinteresting Through the Last WeekIt's so hard to keep up with blogging my pinterest journey, as it's going much better than expected! Instead of doing one a week, I've been doing multiples.

Here's one I just did tonight - I took the picture for inspiration, so I can't say anything about the pattern as I didn't look at it:
Baby Chick Hat

and turned it into this for my store:

On Friday, I made meatballs, using this pinterest recipe (they were quite yummy! Maybe need a little more with spices though)
Meatball Recipe

In the last week or so, I've also made these:

Breadcrumb Spaghetti (quite good!)

White chicken and artichoke Lasagna (A new favorite!)

Cheesesteak stuffed peppers - this one is a mixed bag. The peppers override the taste, I'd suggest cooking the peppers thoroughly before stuffing them, I think it may help boost the other flavors more as they didn't stand out too much. Love the idea of this though

Crockpot Manicotti (Recipe was good, used ricotta instead of cottage cheese. These actually burned in my crockpot though even after using extra sauce, so I'd change the cook time and do it on slow.)JKhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08000028807907032338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7587157717225794442.post-69316581848523155922013-02-10T11:23:00.001-08:002013-02-10T11:23:05.325-08:00Pinterest ChallengeI've decided that for the next few months at least, I'm going to start my own Pinterest challenge. At least one pin a week will be tackled from any of my boards, whether it's cooking, baking, home improvement, or crafts. I'm excited! I started last week with my white chicken artichoke lasagna I made, and this week I'm making Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers. Hoping to get my "done that" board really filled this year!

The lasagna mentioned above, btw, was great and can be found in my done that board, which can be found here:
